Gorge Walks and Adventure Days (Very popular activity)

The Brecon Beacons have some exceptional gorges. All these offer superb walking and a thorough soaking for those seeking a more exhilarating time ! These gorges allow for safe but challenging adventure days incorporating climbing & caving skills. This day long activity involves the descent of a wild gorge using a roped tyrolean river crossing and sliding & jumping though, over and under the water! These are very popular and exciting days. A shorter half-day option is available picking out the highlights and ensuring a very wet but "buzzing" group!

For those not so intrepid or foolish various levels of walks are available from winding paths following beautiful unspoilt gorges to challenging days exploring gorges where wading up to your knees may be required to get to the most undisturbed spots!

Caving

Wet, Cold, Muddy and very, very small - that is most people's idea of caving. Why - because they have never done it!

"Fantastic", "Brilliant Fun", "Completely Different to what I expected", " A completely new experience", "When can I go again!"

Caving can be many things but it is most definitely exciting exploring underground passages and grottoes rarely visited!

Guests will be encouraged to push themselves but will never be asked to do anything that they feel unhappy about - we want this to be an exciting, enjoyable experience that you want to do again - not an unpleasant, frightening torture.

Climbing & Abseiling

Experienced Instructors introduce novices to the art of rock climbing through top-roped climbs often allowing supervised friends to be involved in controlling the rope for fellow climbers. Clients will be able to stretch their ability in perfect safety. Abseiling was traditionally a method for climbers to return to the ground after they had finished a route but today it has become a sport in its own right. You will be shown all the techniques for descending, in control, a cliff face - at all times attached to a safety rope. Natural crags are used where possible but in bad weather superb local indoor climbing walls can be used.

Canoeing

Using fully qualified instructors we can offer novice to advanced trips on the River Wye as well as sessions on Llangorse Lake or the Monmouthshire to Brecon Canal. You can chose from instructional courses including your star awards to fun sessions or relaxing river trips.

Mountain Biking

Following quiet country lanes, green roads and ancient drovers' tracks we explore the wilder side of the Brecon beacons on excellent bikes. We even offer a drop off and collection service! Some of the more popular rides are selections from the Taff Trail - a long distance bike route from Cardiff to Brecon. There is the famous Roman Road from Brecon to Pontsticil - an ancient road through the heart of the Brecon Beacon Mountains. Another route uses disused railway and forestry tracks and follows the beautiful Talybont valley past an impressive reservoir.

Orienteering

There are several permanent courses of different standards in the area although we often set out our own mountain course (we even have a Mountain Biking course we have especially made). On full day events we offer instruction in micro navigation and orienteering skills before running a competition with prizes. For half days we can either teach or run a competition for you. We are also approved by the National Navigation Award Scheme to run training and assessment courses for their Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards (Certificates & Badges for successful candidates). This is a nationally recognised award instigated by Silva to teach mountain & orienteering navigation and safety. The Bronze award is available to any age & ability but the Gold is a tough, challenging assessment for those competent in micro navigation in forestry and mountain - are you up to it.
